Headaches & Migraine

Headaches are a very common health complaint, with most people experiencing them at some point in their life. Migraine headaches occur in 15% of the UK population, and episodic tension-type headaches affect 80% of people at some time. They can have a significant impact when they are present and be very disruptive to people’s lives. Despite this, headaches are underestimated, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. Chiropractors can assess and treat the most common types of headaches, providing relief from symptoms and prevention of future episodes. Although it is a common condition chiropractors treat, many people are unaware that chiropractic management is an effective and efficient approach for the management of headaches.

Causes

Joints and muscles in the neck and jaw have been shown to be contributing factors in both tension-type headaches and migraines. Other contributing factors to these headaches include muscle imbalances, postural issues, physical trauma such as whiplash, stress, poor sleep, dietary factors, and dehydration, among many others. Another frequent type of headache that chiropractors treat is cervicogenic headache, which is where structures in the neck are the specific source of the symptoms.
We will work with you to identify any lifestyle and other contributing factors and help address them with specific strategies and techniques to reduce their impact on your headaches.
